Background:
Jane Rhett is a bead artist who moved to the San Luis Valley three years ago with her husband. Jane's work consists
of traditional beadwork in the form of pins, hair barrettes, jewelry, knitted beaded bags and beaded sculptures. Her
knitted beaded bags vary in size from small amulet bags to 3-inch necklace bags embellished with beaded corn. At
present she is working of beaded tapestry pieces.
Bag Hags and Butterfly bags are another of her creations. Bag Hags are dolls that represent women in different stages and positions in life, and the Butterflies represent a variety of butterfly species from around the world. Both hags and butterflies can be worn or stand along as sculptural pieces.
Jane is a member of the Art Thing in Monte Vista and secretary for MAC (Monte Arts Council). She has shown her pieces with The Art Thing at shows at the Rio Grande County Museum in Del Norte, Water of the San Luis Valley show and the Holiday Festival in Monte Vista.
